NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (NSO)


SWTJC's New Student Orientation (NSO) programs are offered at the Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde Campuses. NSO is designed to help students establish a sense of direction as a SWTJC Student. It helps students understand the college's policies, procedures, and regulations. It helps students become familiar with the campus, student services available, student activities, and the use of campus resources. It helps students become familiar with campus personnel. It helps students become familiar with the academic and technical programs SWTJC has to offer and the different degrees. It helps students become familiar with the Student Code of Conduct. It provides students with College Success Seminars for self improvement.

New Student Orientation Policy
Orientation is required for the following students:

* Students who have never attended college.
* Students who have attended another college, but have completed less
than 12 semester hours.
* Students who plan to graduate from SWTJC with an Associate of Arts Degree,
Associate of Applied Science Degree, or a College Certification.

Note: Students have a one semester grace period in which to complete NSO before stops are placed on their registration.

New Student Orientation Information
* Students planning to attend or have attended classes at the Eagle Pass or Del Rio campuses must register for Orientation at that campus. All other students that are attending or have been attending the Uvalde Campus, Crystal City Campus, or any other facilites, must be registered for Orientation at the Uvalde Campus and must complete it's requirements.

New Student Orientation Regulations
Orientation must be completed during the semester it was registered for. Any student who fails to complete orientation's requirements, will need to re-register and repeat orientation the following semester.

Financial Aid Recipients
Class Attendance is the Key. Financial Aid is earned by Attending Class. Students who attend 60% of the enrollment period earn the right to keep the total amount awarded. Strict repayment penalties apply to those who fail to meet this requirement.This includes participating and completing the orientation program.
