Mr. Joaquin L. Rodriguez Hispanic Heritage speaker of the month

Eagle Pass Campus ended the Hispanic Heritage month with speaker Mr. Joaquin L. Rodriguez Attorney at Law on Thursday Oct 9, 214. Mr. Joaquin L. Rodriguez, born Uvalde, Texas on Sept. 10, 1949; admitted to bar 1982, Texas. Preparatory education, Southwest Texas Junior College (1968-69); University of Texas at Austin (B.A., 1972); legal education, University of Texas at Austin (J.D., 1981).

SWTJC partners with Texas State University on USDA grant
The United States Department of Agriculture’s Hispanic Serving Institutions Education Grants Program (HSI) has recently awarded Dr. P. Ryan Saucier (Assistant Professor; Project Director) and Dr. Douglas G. Morrish (Associate Professor; Co-Project Director) a four year grant worth $998, 856.00. Both professors are faculty members in the Department of Agriculture at Texas State University.

Their grant entitled Southwest Agriculture And Food Security Education: Preparing Future Leaders For A Safe And Secure U.S. Food Supply System (SAFE), will fund 10 undergraduate student’s education from Austin Community College (ACC) and Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC). Upon completion of a two year degree at ACC and SWTJC, students will transfer to Texas State University and complete a bachelor degree in agriculture or a related science. Additionally, 11 graduate students education will be funded at Texas State University and/or New Mexico State University in agriculture or a related science.

Welcome Back fall 2014
 

welcome back 2014 SWTJC Eagle Pass Campus had a large crowd of students showing up for free hotdogs, chips and soda. Over 350 hotdogs were served by faculty, staff and Student Government Association.

Friends & Alumni SWTJC Scholarship Recipients 2013-2014

      Southwest Texas Junior College awarded the 2013-2014 scholarship recipients for the Eagle Pass High School they  were Alejandra Adan, Juan Salinas, Karen Martinez and Lucy Chapa. CC Winn High School were Martin Gomez, Carlos Carbajal, Ana luisa Gonzalez, and Rodolfo Riza III also pictured Mrs. Delia Esquivel Ofice Manager at SWTJC and Mrs. Brenda Hoffman Counselor at SWTJC.

SWTJC Signs Articulation Agreement with Angelo State University for Engineering Degree
Angelo On Monday March 24, 2014, representatives from Angelo State University (ASU) visited Southwest Texas Junior College. Dr. Brian May, President of Angelo State University, and Dr. Javier Flores, Vice President of Student Affair and Enrollment Management visited the Del Rio and Eagle Pass campuses.

In Del Rio, Derek Sandoval, Associate Vice President of the Del Rio Campus conducted a tour of the recently opened administration building and soon-to-open student classroom building. Dr. May and Dr. Flores visited with students and discussed the potential to work together on Science, Technology, Engineering , and Math (STEM) degree programs with SWTJC faculty and administration, including Dr. Hector Gonzales, SWTJC president. Also in attendance was Dr. Carlos Rios, Superintendent of San Felipe-Del Rio CISD, who expressed interest and support in a partnership between SWTJC and ASU.

College Crossroads 2014
college crossroads 2014 The 2014 College Crossroads event was held on Thursday, March 27th, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Eagle Pass Campus. More Pics

There was booth activities, food, music and many games for the students. Booths offered activities promoting graduation, registering for summer and fall sessions, transfer assistance, degree completion, financial aid application and career interest inventory.
