Nerd Bowl
Nerd Bowl

Eagle Pass – On April 28th, SWTJC’s Eagle Pass Campus, in conjunction with PTK, hosted the first ever Nerd Bowl. Nerd Bowl was a day dedicated to academic competition. During the morning, more than forty-five students took multiple department exams in the following disciplines: Math, Science, English, History, Psychology, Art, and Speech. Each exam allowed students to add to their overall point total depending on how well they did. In the afternoon, students competed in teams of five in a jeopardy-like event. During the first round, twelve teams competed against each other. Teams had six minutes, at each station, to answer five questions in the following subjects: Math, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, English, History, Art, and Speech. The top two teams The Procrastinators and Theta Apple Pie advanced to the final round. In the final round, each team had a limited about of time to answer one question from the above disciplines. At the end of the final round The Procrastinators and Theta Apple Pie were tied with 300 points each. So, both teams advanced to the tie breaker round. General knowledge questions were asked during the tie breaker round. The competition was tough, and in the end Nerd Bowl was won by Theta Apple Pie. Ms. Valerie Ruiz, Ms. Claudia Valdez, and Mr. Dennie Johnson would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and helped to sponsor the very successful event. Eight students were awarded scholarships, and even more students were awarded individual prizes. PICS
