A total of 396 graduates participated in the 68th Annual Southwest Texas Junior College Commencement Ceremony held May 16 before a standing-room-only crowd at the Uvalde Honey Bowl Stadium.
Taking part in the ceremony were December 2014 graduates, May 2015 graduates and August 2015 candidates for graduation.
“Our biggest concern was the threat of rain, luckily we avoided any bad weather,” said SWTJC Registrar, Luis Fernandez. “This years commencement ceremony went on without a hitch and I’d like to thank all the staff that worked hard to make this day a success.”
A total of 744 graduates were listed in this year’s commencement program, with 392 receiving the associate of arts degree in general studies and 18 awarded the associate of science degree. An additional 52 students earned the associate of applied science degree and 282 students received basic certificates and certificates of completion. PHOTOS
SWTJC Uvalde Catholic Club member Arianne C. Peñalosa of Uvalde delivered the invocation. SWTJC student ambassador Ruth Alcantar led the singing of The National Anthem. SWTJC Del Rio Campus Vice President Derek Sandoval was master of ceremonies.
Hector Gonzales, Ph.D., SWTJC President, introduced college trustees and honored guests, and SWTJC Vice President for Academic Affairs Mark Underwood, Ph.D., introduced keynote speaker Ramsey English Cantu, Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass.
SWTJC Eagle Pass Campus had their end of year bbq on May 14th at 5pm in C building.
Instructors, staff and faculty were treated to some good old fashion brisket, beans and potato to celebrate another successful year. We would like to thank everyone that made this year possible. More PhotosFull Article >>>
