Time permits available starting March 2nd for summer and fall
Registration will begin early this year for summer and fall classes at SWTJC. According to SWTJC Counselor Mrs. Brenda Hoffman, registration for both summer sessions, as well as fall 2015 classes, will begin March 30th.


"Advisor-assisted registration begins on Monday, March 30th, so we encourage students to get their time permits as soon as they can, registering early will give us more time to advise students and to help them work on securing financial aid to help defray cost, "Hoffman said.


Summer I classes will begin on June 1st and end on July 7th, while Summer II starts on July 13th and ends Aug. 18th. Fall classes are slated to begin on Aug 24th.

Students attended Community College Day in Austin
Community College Day  A group of over 50 SWTJC students, administration, faculty and staff attended Community College Day on Feb. 3 at the state capitol in Austin.

Dual credit students from Uvalde High School, as well as SWTJC students from Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde campuses joined over 1,500 at the rally outside the capitol. PHOTOS

The event was sponsored by the Texas Association of Community Colleges. Speakers from TACC, as well as various state legislators and the president of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association all spoke at the opening of the day's activities.

Following the opening speeches, student representatives in attendance were encouraged to visit with their respective legislators concerning various issues facing the 50 community college districts across the state.

The SWTJC group visited with District 80 State Representative Tracy O. King of Uvalde and District 74 State Representative Poncho Nevarez of Eagle Pass.

Good crowd attends Eagle Pass ground breaking

It's official – ground has been broken for the new construction project on the SWTJC campus in Eagle Pass. School officials hosted an official groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 23 for the $6.9 million project.

Joe Barker vice president of administrative services, welcomed SWTJC faculty, staff and members of the community including city mayor Ramsey Cantu, city council members Luis Sifuentes, Gloria Hernandez, Rudy Villapondo, and William Davis. Other local dignitaries in attendance included Maverick County Judge David Saucedo, Eagle Pass Independent School District Superintendent Gilbert Gonzalez, Sul Ross State University President Bill Kibler, Rio Grande College Associate Provost Dr. Paul Sorrels and numerous other guests. Victor Lopez was also recognized; he was representing the SWTJC Foundation, Inc. board.

SWTJC President Dr. Hector Gonzales welcomed guests to the ceremony and shared his long-term vision for the college in Eagle Pass. VIDEO PHOTOS

"Earlier this year we bought ten acres on Veterans Boulevard to create a technical campus for the community and over a year ago we purchased 18 acres on the other side of the hospital to secure the future growth for this institution and this community," Gonzales said. "We are doing everything we can to plan for the future and to accommodate the growth we see here."
