A total of 32 new members were inducted into the Eta Beta Chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa during ceremonies held Nov. 3 in Uvalde. SEE PHOTO
New members include Myra Aguilar, Bianca Alcala, Briana Allen, Yvonne Allen, Cheryl Baxter, Brett Butzke, Selena Cervantes, Nevada Coe, Garrett Courtney, Johnny J. Cruz, Jr., Ford DuBose and Chelsea Garcia.
Also inducted were Tomica Gawlik, Jason Geron, Rebecca Gomez, Jack Hill, Troy Hull, Sierra Jackson, Lori Jenkins, Ileana Luna, Karina Luna, Alisa Megee and George Melchor.
Other SWTJC Uvalde students inducted this fall include Faith Montgomery, Elizabeth Nintai, Cecilia Padilla, Cecilia Roberson, Elaine Schlichting, Manuel Valadez, Elvia Valdes, Alicia Villarreal and James White.
SWTJC Dean of Admissions and Student Services Joe Barker welcomed new members and their guests to the ceremony held in the ballroom of the Matthews Student Center.
"Phi Theta Kappa is the flagship group of the 25 clubs and organizations on our campus," said Barker. "You represent the cream of the crop, the best of the best and I congratulate you on putting in all the hard work it takes to earn membership in this prestigious group."
Eta Beta Chapter president Ernest Garza II introduced Barker and was master of ceremonies for the evening. Other chapter officers participating in the induction were Veronica Gracia, Erica Bustamante and Trevor Pevehouse.
Chapter advisors Barbara Blair and Rick Jones were also recognized during the event, along with other faculty and staff in attendance. Andrew Humphrey provided musical entertainment before the ceremony.
Following the induction, a reception was held in the Matthews Student Center.
