SWTJC President Dr. Ismael Sosa, Jr., welcomed faculty back Tuesday, Jan. 10, on the opening morning of spring convocation.
Highlighting some of the good news from 2011, including the college's selection as one of the top 10 community colleges in the nation, as well as being named recipient of a $600,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation, Dr. Sosa thanked the faculty for continuing to meet the needs of students.
"The demands of all of us continue to increase, with a variety of state and federal mandates, but in spite of it all, you continue to do an outstanding job serving our students," Sosa said. "Students and faculty come first and the rest of us are here to support you."
In his welcome, Sosa also acknowledged the passing of long time speech instructor Siegfried Jucknies who died Monday, Jan. 9. Jucknies was hired as an instructor in September of 1974. He retired this past July.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. in Uvalde's St. Philip's Episcopal Church.
