Meningitis vaccine available for students at bargain prices

Mobile Vaccine Solutions will make stops at SWTJC campuses in Del Rio, Uvalde and Eagle Pass this week to provide students the opportunity to get their meningitis vaccination for only $14.85.

According to Dean of Admissions Joe Barker, beginning this semester the vaccination is required by state law for all new students under the age of 30.

"We have heard of clinics and private doctor's offices charging as much as $200 for this vaccine," Barker said. "This is a real bargain and we hope our students will take advantage of this opportunity."

The vaccinations will be available on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Del Rio. On the Uvalde campus, vaccinations will be given from 7 a.m. to noon on Friday, Jan. 20.

In Eagle Pass, shots will be available on Friday, Jan. 20, from 2 to 7 p.m.

"The vaccinations are mandatory for all new students, but any student can take advantage of this bargain price," Barker said. "New students under the age of 30 must have the vaccinations or a hold will be put on their records."
