SWTJC Cowboys claim league basketball championship in San Antonio

The SWTJC Cowboys are the 2012 champions of the South Texas Club Sports League.

"It was a perfect end to a great season," coach Richard Flores said. "Congratulations to all our players for their hard work this spring and last fall."

SWTJC claimed the title on Sunday, March 11, with a 100-95 win over Victoria College. Trailing 49-48 at the half, the Cowboys rallied for the win behind top scorers Jeremiah King with 29 points and John Register with 24.

The Cowboys opened the championship tournament on Saturday, March 10, with a 93-87 win over St. Philip's College. The Cowboys had a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring in double figures led by Angel Gaitan with 17 points.

Other top scorers for the Cowboys against St. Philip's were Cole Martinez and John Register, 14 points each; Jeremiah King, 13 points; and Ethan Lynch, 10 points.

All tournament games were played at The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
