Faculty, administrators and staff from Sul Ross State University - Rio Grande College and Southwest Texas Junior College will be on hand Monday, April 23, for the official signing of a new memorandum of cooperation between the two institutions.
The signing will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Flores Student Services Building on the SWTJC campus in Uvalde.
"We have had a close partnership with RGC for nearly 40 years and we are excited about strengthening that partnership," SWTJC President Dr. Ismael Sosa, Jr., said.
Sul Ross State University President Dr. Ricardo Maestas will be on hand for the official signing, according to Dr. Paul Sorrels, Rio Grande College associate provost/dean.
"RGC and SWTJC have been working together to find better ways to develop a smooth four-year experience for the students we serve," Dr. Sorrels said. "This new memorandum of cooperation will commit us to a variety of initiatives we believe will help us accomplish this goal."
The memorandum between the two institutions will run through 2016 and lists six initial goals including: avoiding unnecessary duplication of course content, promoting collaboration between academic departments to develop continuity of educational programs, planning and implementing electronic transcripts, degree and curriculum planning to facilitate smooth educational experiences for students, collaboration in admissions and student advising, and collaboration in seeking and administering mutually beneficial grants.
"The underlying principle behind this agreement can be summed up in one word – efficiency," SWTJC President-elect Dr. Hector Gonzales said. "If our partnership can improve its efficiency, we will serve our students better and improve their pathways to success."
Following Monday's official signing, a reception will be held in the Flores Student Services Building.
