Uvalde's Morgann McDonald finished eighth overall in the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) held June 12-18 in Casper, Wyoming.
A member of the Southwest Texas Junior College rodeo team, McDonald had a combined time of 57.60 in four rounds of barrel racing to finish a mere 1.13 seconds behind national champion Liz Combs (56.47) of Sam Houston State University (SHSU).
McDonald's best finish and time came in the short go when she earned sixth place with a 14.22 time. Combs and McDonald finished first and second in the Southern Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), during the 2011-2012 season, to earn their place in the CNFR field.
Southern Region team champions from SHSU also did well in Casper. The SHSU men's team finished second, while the women's team claimed third.
