The first of two new student orientation sessions is slated this Friday, July 13, on the Uvalde campus.
"We have gotten away from daylong orientation sessions over the past few years, but we are bringing them back in preparation for the fall 2012 semester," SWTJC registrar Luis Fernandez said. "We need to do everything we can to welcome our new students and let them know of all the services available at SWTJC to help them succeed."
New students were sent postcards advising them of the orientation session they are expected to attend. In addition to the July 13 session, a second session is planned on July 27.
Check-in for both sessions will be from 8 to 8:15 a.m. at the Tate Auditorium. Following a welcome by kinesiology department chair Derek Sandoval, students will hear short presentation from a wide range of club sponsors and college staff.
More in-depth breakout sessions will be held from 10:10 to 11:30 on student services, financial aid, portal and WebAdvisor access, and degree planning/class scheduling.
Following a complimentary lunch, campus and library tours are also scheduled. Students attending the orientation session will also receive academic advising and officially register for fall classes.
