A construction project in Del Rio, which will add over 38,000 square feet of space to the existing facility, moved a step closer to reality following the Thursday, July 19, meeting of the SWTJC Foundation, Inc.
Board members had the opportunity to view a scale model of the project presented by architect Tom Ferrell of Ferrell/Brown and Associates from Corpus Christi.

Ferrell will bring blueprints for the project back to the board in September. "If you approve the plans in September we will begin advertising for bids and would hope to begin construction by November," Ferrell told the board.
According to Ferrell, the main building in the project will include 32,615 square-feet of space and will house science labs, the nursing program, a new library, classrooms and faculty offices. A new 6,000 square-foot administration building will also be added.
The project will also include remodeling the current administration building and other minor remodeling efforts to the current main building.
Total cost of the project is estimated at $7.9 million. SWTJC president-elect Hector Gonzales is currently negotiating financing for the project.
