Top name musicians and bands, a three-day professional rodeo, a carnival, parade and barbecue cookoff – the 2012 Palomino Fest Labor Day Weekend Celebration promises to be bigger and better than ever this year.
Kicking things off for this year's celebration at the new Uvalde County Fairplex will be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Carnival starting Thursday at 5 p.m. There will be no gate fee Thursday night.
The festival goes into full swing on Friday with a rodeo performance at 7 p.m. and a full lineup of musical entertainment including the Spazmatics at 9 p.m. and the Electric Cowboys/Grupo Vida at 10:30. Competition will also begin Friday in the Briscoe Ranch Barbecue Cookoff sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association.
A parade will be staged Saturday morning on Highway 90 west starting at 10 a.m. at the Uvalde Police Station. Saturday's musical lineup on the Bud Light Concert Stage will begin at 2 p.m., with Ricardo Castillon y La Diferencia at 9 p.m. and Michael Salgado at 10:30. A rodeo performance is also on tap Sunday at 7 p.m., as well as the conclusion of the barbecue cookoff.
On Sunday, Uvalde's grammy award winning Los Palominos will perform at 8:45 p.m. followed by Ramon Ayala y Sus Bravos Del Norte starting at 10:30.
Tickets will only be sold at the gate and are $10 daily or $15 for the three-day weekend.
