According to Student Activities Director Jessica Nuñez-Gonzalez, it was one of the largest crowds in recent memory. "I was scared we would run out of burgers but we just made it," she said.

In addition to free lunch, students who attended also had the opportunity to pick up information about the various clubs on the Uvalde campus. Representatives from Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, The Catholic Club, Mariachis Los Vaqueros de SWTJC, Student Ambassadors, Veteran's Club, Rotoract Club, Criminal Justice Club and Business Administration Club, as well as the men's and women's basketball teams, all participated.

The Welcome Back event was sponsored by the Student Activities Office. Next event on the student activities calendar is free cake on Monday, Sept. 17, in observance of Constitution Day.

A variety of events are also planned for Hispanic Heritage Month which will be observed this year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
