Sabinal, Knippa advance to finals in day one action

The defending champion Sabinal Yellowjackets will get a chance at a fourth straight title after winning their opening two games (Dec. 6) in the 53rd Annual SWTJC High School Basketball Tournament.

Sabinal opened defense of their title with a 47-41 win over D'Hanis and then held off Knippa, 66-58, to earn their berth in Saturday's tourney finals.

In the girl's division, Knippa beat La Pryor, 38-28, to open the tournament and then the Lady Crushers blasted Sabinal, 50-21, to make the finals.

Action continues Friday with opening round games between girls and boys teams from Utopia and Nueces Canyon, and Brackettville and Leakey.

The girl's championship game will be play at 6:30 Saturday night followed by the boy's championship at 8.

All games are being played in the La Forge Hall Gym on the SWTJC Uvalde campus.
