The official groundbreaking ceremony for a $6.7 million construction project at the Southwest Texas Junior College facility in Del Rio has been postponed until Feb. 15.
"We had some issues come up and will have to move the official groundbreaking date from Jan. 23, as originally planned, to Feb. 15," SWTJC Associate Dean Mark Underwood, Ph.D., said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this last minute change of plans has caused."
The project includes a 32,000 square foot academic building with classrooms, a new library, science labs, nursing program labs, faculty offices, student and faculty lounges.
A 6,000 square foot building is also included in the project and will house a variety of student support services including counseling, financial aid, business, admissions and administrative offices. The building will be named the Charles and Polly Chandler Student Services Building, in appreciation of a recent $863,000 gift to the SWTJC Foundation, Inc., from the Chandler foundations.
The official groundbreaking will be held starting at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the college facility located at 207 Wildcat Drive.
