The Eta Beta Chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa inducted 26 new members this spring at Southwest Texas Junior College, during ceremonies Feb. 28 in Uvalde.
New members inducted include Isabella M. Balderas, Gabriela Chapa, Eliazar Cuellar, Tess Dula, Kelby Ermis, Cassandra Esquivel, Alysa S. Freier, Hannah D. Garza, Tiana I. Jimenez, Antonio Martinez, Robert Medina, Yvonne Mitten and Amanda G. Ramirez.
Also inducted were, Abigail Robb, Marcos Reyes-Ruiz, Paola Rodriguez, Emily Rue, Esmeralda Ruiz, Jo Ann Sanchez, Diane Snavely, Marissa A. Sosa, Clarissa D. Steck, Christina M. Thomas, Megan M. Trevino, Jennifer Vasquez and Erica D. Velez.
SWTJC President-Elect Hector Gonzales, Ph.D., welcomed guests to the spring induction ceremony. Gonzales gave special recognition to current president Ismael Sosa, Jr., Ph.D., and his wife, Eunice, as well as faculty members in attendance.
Current Eta Beta Chapter members participating in the ceremony were Anisha Hindocha, Sunjin Contreras, Cassandra Canales, Yvonne Allen and George Melchor, Jr.
To earn membership in Phi Theta Kappa, students must have completed at least 12 semester hours with at least a 3.5 GPA. Students must also be currently enrolled in at least six hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain members in good standing.
A reception for inductees and their families was held in the Matthews Student Center immediately following the ceremony.
