Longtime SWTJC instructor Derek Sandoval has been named by the SWTJC Board of Trustees as the new associate vice president of the Del Rio campus. Sandoval replaces Dr. Mark Underwood who the board recently named the vice president for academic affairs.
Action on a variety of other personnel matters highlighted board action at the board's regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 21, as the board renewed contracts for various associate vice presidents, deans and faculty members for the 2013-2014 school year.
In other matters the board approved tuition and technology fee increases beginning this summer. Overall increases will be $3.50 per semester hour for in-district students, $8 for out-of-district students and $20 for non-residents.
According to vice president for finance Anne Tarski, the increases are in line with other area community college districts and will generate approximately $586,000 in additional revenue.
"The state funding picture is still unclear at this point, but these increases will put us in good position to deal with whatever comes out of the legislature this session," SWTJC President-Elect Dr. Hector Gonzales told the board.
In other matters the board approved various catalog changes and selected Elena Lara to confer degrees at this year's graduation ceremony scheduled May 11
