Over 400 people are expected Saturday night (April 6) at the SWTJC Friends and Alumni Network (FAN) Gala in the Uvalde County Fairplex Event Center.

A special feature of this year's gala will be a tribute to outgoing SWTJC President Ismael Sosa, Jr., Ph.D., who is retiring this summer after a 45-year career at the college.

"We have prepared a video tribute to president Sosa and have a few other surprises in store for him," gala committee member Willie Edwards said.

Also planned for this year's event are a silent auction, steak dinner with all the trimmings and dancing to the music of country/Tejano band Highway 281.

Tickets for a rip for two to Las Vegas, donated by AEP Texas, will also be sold during the gala. A total of 100 tickets at $50 each will be sold and the winning ticket will be drawn during the dance.
Several FAN scholarship recipients currently attending SWTJC will also be introduced during the evening.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner scheduled to begin at 7. Dress for the evening will be cocktail attire.

All proceeds from the gala will be used to provide scholarships for students across the college's 11-county service area. Since its formation in 2007, SWTJC FAN has awarded over $130,000 in scholarships to over 200 students.
