Students still have a week to register before classes in the first summer session at SWTJC begin on June 3.
According to registrar Luis Fernandez, a total of 1,517 students had registered for summer I classes as of Thursday, May 23.
"We are slightly ahead of last year's summer I registration and we still have a week for students to register," Fernandez said. "I do want to remind students that there are still quite a few students who haven't made payment arrangements, and May 31 is the deadline to get that done."
Fernandez said students have a variety of payment options available to them, but it is the student's responsibility to get with someone in financial aid or the business office to set up a payment plan.
While there is still a week to register, Fernandez advises students to get signed up for summer I classes as soon as possible. "Some of our classes are filling up fast and if students wait until the last minute they might not be able to get some of the classes they want," Fernandez said.
For the first time in school history, SWTJC has been registering students since April for fall classes set to begin on Aug. 26.
"We have registered just over 1,500 students so far for fall classes," Fernandez said. "Since this is the first time we've started fall registration this early, we can't compare with past years, but we are pleased with the response so far."
Students can register in person or online, if they qualify. At this time, in Uvalde, time permits are not required.
"Students can just come in and we will assign them an advisor, or if they need help registering online we have staff to help with that, as well," Fernandez said.
In addition to registering for classes, students planning on attending SWTJC in the fall should come in as soon as possible to finalize their financial aid documentation.
"There is still time to apply for and receive a variety of financial aid, but time is running out to get everything done in time to qualify for fall classes," Fernandez said.
