If the first game of the season is any indication, the SWTJC Cowboys basketball team is in for an exciting year.
The Cowboys posted an 89-88 overtime win at home Wednesday night (Sept. 18) over a team from Lackland AFB.
Ed Salazar hit a clutch 3-pointer as the time expired in regulation play to send the game to overtime. "After Wednesday night, Ed has a new nickname," Cowboys coach Richard Flores said. "It's "Big Shot" Salazar from now on."
Salazar's basket tied the game 82-82 as the clock ran out in regulation play. In overtime, the Cowboys outscored Lackland seven to six to claim the win.
Four Cowboys scored in double figures led by Edward Robinson, 19 points, and Mabior Mayen, 16 points. Other top Cowboy scorers were Mark Vargas with 11 and Cole Martinez with 10.
Next action for the Cowboys will be at home this Saturday when they take on a team from Fort Sam Houston starting at 1 p.m. in the La Forge Hall Gymnasium.
