The SWTJC Cowgirls are in second place in the team competition at the end of the fall rodeo season in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southern Region.
McNeese State University of Lake Charles, LA., is in first place after five rodeos with a total of 1,780 points, followed by SWTJC with 1,148. Sam Houston State University is in third place with 664 points.
In the men's division, the SWTJC Cowboys are in fifth place with 1,186 points. Sam Houston State with 2,247 points is in first place followed closely by McNeese State with 2,214 points.
SWTJC's Morgann McDonald, last year's Southern Region barrel racing champion, is on pace to repeat her title. McDonald is in first place after five events with 650 points. Sam Houston's Skye Wright is in second with 273 points followed by SWTJC's Rozlyn Reeves in third with 259 points. Reeves also ranks eighth in goat tying after five events this fall.
Sterling Furr of SWTJC leads the bull riding competition, as the fall season ends, with 313 points. Wes Troyer and Colton Nelson are in third place overall in team roping and teammates Logan Currie and Colton Lee are in 13th place.
Five additional rodeos will be held during the spring semester in the Southern Region.
