jazz bandA new SWTJC/community jazz band will hold its first practice session on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Matthews Student Center Ballroom.

"We have 23 people who have said they want to participate, so we are going to have a jazz band," said SWTJC public information officer Willie Edwards. "To accommodate some of the high school band personnel who want to participate, we will start practicing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays."

Edwards said the group still welcomes anyone interested in participating to come to the  first practice session.

"There is still room for anyone who wants to join us," Edwards said. "So come next Wednesday and join the fun."

Uvalde High School jazz band director Mark Lyon will direct the new group. "I'm excited about getting started," Lyon said. "I'm getting some charts together and will be ready to go when we meet next Wednesday."

For additional information on the group, contact Edwards at 591-7222, or by e-mail at wedwards@swtjc.cc.tx.us
