The SWTJC Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Mitchel Burchfield as division chair for developmental studies during their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, July 17 in Uvalde.

In other business at their regular monthly meeting, the board renewed its lease for one year for classroom and computer lab space at the South Texas Regional Training Center in Hondo and also extending the depository contract with First State Bank of Uvalde.

In the president’s report, SWTJC President, Dr. Hector Gonzales gave updates on the construction projects in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Crystal City and Uvalde.

In Del Rio, the contractor has begun the final parking lot improvements, and is scheduled to finish by Sept. 5.

In Eagle Pass, SWTJC staff and architects continue to work on the details for their project, while in Crystal City architects, staff and civil engineers have been working with city staff to finalize the surveys and documents needed for the conveyance to occur and are moving forward with the design.

In Uvalde, one wing of Hubbard Hall has been taken offline to begin the major remodel to the existing dorm rooms.

Gonzales reported Summer II enrollment totals were up ten percent in credit hours from last year, but expects those numbers to slightly decrease after nonpayment students are dropped from the official rolls.
