Southwest Texas Junior College is adding men’s and women’s cross country to the athletic program and will begin competing in the 2014 - 2015 school year as part of the Texas Collegiate Club Sports League (TCCSL).

Kinesiology Department Coordinator, Landra Fowler has been appointed as head coach and will over see the day-to-day operation and training of the newly cross country program. Vicky Perez of Del Rio and Juan Gonzalez of Eagle Pass will also join the program as assistant coaches.

Perez will recruit and train athletes in Del Rio, while Gonzalez will do the same in Eagle Pass.

“Our objective is to build student leaders through sports,” said Fowler. “We are very excited about this addition.”

The men’s and women’s cross country programs were approved during the Board of Trustees regular meeting in May, 2014.
