SOUTHWEST TEXAS JUNIOR COLLEGE
COLLEGE BOUND PROGRAM
General Overview
To enhance and expand the educational opportunities of 50 economically
disadvantaged students in the Middle Rio Grande Region and increase the
potential of each student to become an economically self-sufficient,
employable citizen, Southwest Texas Junior College, in partnership with
Middle Rio Grande Development Council, has developed the College Bound
Program.
The College Bound Program consists of a ten-week program at Southwest
Texas Junior College. During these ten weeks 50 students from the
Middle Rio Grande Region are enrolled in a
three (3) hour general course (English, History, etc.) and a one (1)
hour Physical Education
course per semester for a total of eight (8) semester hours. All
students reside in the college
dormitories. Three meals per day are served by the cafeteria. All
program-related transportation is provided by the college. In addition
to the academic training, some students are employed by the college in
the various
departments and/or offices. Other students are provided employment
which involves on-the-job training in general computer
technology. All students are paid a minimum hourly wage for a total of
80 hours for the ten week period
