SWTJC Child Development Center Earns Prestigious NAEYC Accreditation

Uvalde, TX, October 18, 2023 - Southwest Texas Junior College proudly announces that the Powers & Kirchner Child Development Center (SWTJC-Powers Kirchner CDC) earned the prestigious National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Early Learning Program Accreditation. This significant achievement demonstrates the center's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education and care.

The NAEYC accreditation, valid until Nov. 1, 2028, reflects the center's dedication to meeting rigorous standards in early childhood education. The SWTJC-Powers Kirchner CDC excelled in several key areas to attain this recognition.

Christine M. Chapoy, the Child Development Center Director, expressed her enthusiasm about the achievement. "We are thrilled to have earned NAEYC accreditation, which reflects the dedication of our team to provide a positive and developmentally appropriate environment for all children in our care. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to excellence in early childhood education."

The Powers & Kirchner Child Development Center (SWTJC-Powers Kirchner CDC) serves children from infants to 12 years, offering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families. Parents are encouraged to visit the center anytime, fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration.

The Powers and Kirchner Hall Child Development Center is a 5,800-square-foot facility with a rich history, partially financed by a generous gift from Mr. F.B. Kirchner, who ranched in Edwards County. The center has space for 64 students and includes a classroom and observation sites for students enrolled in the child development program. It plays a vital role in enhancing various programs at SWTJC, including Child Development, Nursing and Management, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and enrich their education.

The primary purpose of the Child Development Center is to provide high-quality care and educational services to the children of SWTJC students and employees while serving as an academic and observational facility. Child Development, Nursing, and Management students will benefit from this center, where they can study child growth and development, conduct developmental assessments, and gain workplace experience under the guidance of professional staff.

Southwest Texas Junior College is excited to celebrate this significant accomplishment and looks forward to continuing its commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
