City council, UCISD board candidate forum set for April 19, 2022

Uvalde, TX, April 13, 2022 - Uvalde voters will have an opportunity to hear from candidates running to represent them on the Uvalde City Council and the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District board on Tuesday, April 19, at the Tate Auditorium in Uvalde beginning at 7 p.m. (with check-in at 6:30 p.m.).
 
Contested races for UCISD are for the East Zone, with incumbents Elissa Gonzalez and Anabel Rocha White running against challengers Ann Sanford, JJ Suarez, and Edward Trevino.
 
Meanwhile, for the Uvalde City Council, the contested races are for Districts 1 and 3, with incumbent Everardo “Lalo” Zamora defending against challenger Santa Roque Perez
for District 1
 
Otilio Carranza, Jr., Phillip Hanna, Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, and Beco Diaz are running for the District 3 seat, which is currently held by Rogelio M. Muñoz, who is ineligible to run again due to term limits.
 
The event is presented by Southwest Texas Junior College. SWTJC Government Instructor and Faculty Association President Xaviera Haynes will moderate. The forum will consist of three parts, with the first being candidate introductions, followed by questions from the moderator, and finally, questions from residents.

Early voting for both elections begins April 25, and Election Day is May 7.
